Herbal Hair Rinse
Following your shampoo with an herbal hair rinse is the perfect way to top off your hair cleansing routine. Herbal hair rinses can cleanse the scalp and remove residue from the hair shaft (from hair care products such as sprays, gels, and conditioners), soften the hair, and add shine and subtle highlights. By choosing which herbs and other ingredients to add to your rinse, you can customize your herbal product to perfectly suit your needs.
Simply make a strong tea of herbs (about 3 to 4 tablespoons of herb per cup of water) and let steep until room temperature. Strain. Combine tea with one cup of water. Pour rinse over hair and scalp after shampooing or co-washing. Rinse with clear water (if you wish, but not necessary).
Apple Cider Vinegar Herbal Hair Rinse
You’ll need:
3-4 tbls of your favorite herbs
1 cup apple cider vinegar
2 cups warm water
Directions:
Place 3 to 4 tablespoons of herbs in a jar. Heat a cup of apple cider vinegar (in a non-metal pot) until not quite boiling. Pour over herbs. Cover and let stand in a warm place for a week or so, shaking occasionally. Strain and cap. (Line the cap with plastic to avoid contact with the metal.) When ready to use, dilute about 1/2 cup of the herbal vinegar with about 2 cups of warm water. Pour over hair as a final rinse after conditioning. Rinse again with clear water.
See the natural oils and herbs page.
Tip: For maximum effectiveness, catch your hair rinse in a bowl as you pour it over your hair. Then repeat the rinse several times.

You’ll need:
4 cups distilled or spring water
1 cup whole flaxseeds
1/2 cup herbs of your choice
1 tbls vegetable glycerin
1 tbls A4N Revitalizing Herbal Hair Oil [A4N Note: can also substitute olive or avocado oil]
3 drops rosemary essential oil
3 drops ylang ylang essential oil (or use your favorite)
Medium to large squeeze bottle (similar to the bottle used for professional hair coloring. Can purchase from a beauty supply store)
Directions
Mix flaxseed and 2 cups of water in a bowl and let it sit in the refrigerator overnight to activate the mucilage (thick, gooey substance that will become the gel)
Day 2
Using a 2 quart pot or larger, add herbs to 2 cups of water. Bring to a soft boil & drain. Add herbal water (tea) back into pot. Add flaxseed mixture into the pot containing the herbal water (tea); bring to a soft boil (stirring often). Mixture will become thick and gel will begin to form.Turn off heat. Let mixture sit on the stove for 5 minutes while stirring. Drain into a large bowl (or measuring cup) using cheese cloth or a large strainer. Add vegetable glycerin, A4N Revitalizing Herbal Hair Oil and essential oils and stir well. Use a funnel to pour mixture into the squeeze bottle.
Note: Gel will keep for 2-3 weeks when refrigerated. Also, if you find the mixture is too much to use within a 3 week period, make half the amount or share with a friend.
Deep Conditioner w/Mayo

1 tbls castor oil
1 tbls avocado oil
Mix the mayo and oils well. Apply liberally to hair after cleansing. Wrap hair with a processing cap and plastic bag. Let sit for 45 minutes to 1 hour.
Rinse, rinse and rinse again to remove all the mayo. Style as usual.
Note: If your hair needs extra protein, add one egg to the above mixture.
